Ontae Drabble; Under the Stars; pg; fluff; 349 words

fic is heavily inspired by this.
“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’ll live a lot differently. When you look into infinity, you realize that there are more important things than what people do all day.”

The two of them were supposed to be asleep at this time of night, especially because they had to wake up extra early tomorrow for the photo shoot. The two of them were supposed to be tucked in their beds, encased in deep slumber, and dreaming the night away.

But the two boys wanted to break tradition and this they did so, as they slipped away from their beds in the dead of the night, tip-toeing across their dorm in eerie silence, and meeting up in the small balcony, the cold night wind making them shiver and lean into each other’s warmth for comfort.

The midnight sky was a vast blanket of stars that night and Taemin and Jinki draped themselves all over it, basking in its eminence and glory. No words needed to be said, it was evident in their faces that they both loved the same sky, the same sky that was displayed before them for the entire world to see, and that the way they sometimes sighed professed that they both thought the sight before them was breathtaking and achingly beautiful.

Taemin was the one to break the silence. “Hyung, let’s do this again another time,” he murmured, nuzzling into Jinki’s neck. “Just the two of us.”

Taemin’s words tickled Jinki but he couldn’t bear to shy away from the younger boy. “Sure,” he replied, his voice soft and melodious and it was like music to Taemin’s ears.

And then Taemin leaned away from his neck and the absence of warmth made Jinki wistful but Taemin flashed him a smile so wide and bright that it made Jinki’s mind whirl about because Taemin’s smile reminded him of a lot of things. Taemin’s smile reminded him of innocence, of children’s laughter, of days filled with happiness and mirth.

But most of all, Taemin’s smile reminded him that all the stars in the sky didn’t matter anymore, because the most beautiful one of all was shining right beside him, on a cold night that was filled with chaste kisses, warm breaths, and silent words spoken by the eyes.
